CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

As a church school, rooted in God’s love and respect for Christian values, we want the young people of Hope Brook to learn and flourish as inquisitive individuals prepared for life in the world – today and in the future. We want our children to be inspired by a well-planned curriculum that is designed to deepen their understanding and broaden their perspectives on life.

We prioritise success in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, science and mathematical understanding, together with confidence in the use of computing. However, we pride ourselves on our ability to balance this with a broad and enriched curriculum that allows our children ample opportunities to explore art, design technology, music, history, geography, religious education and French as well as a wide range of sporting and outdoor activities.

Our PSHE curriculum has been developed to ensure all our children have the skills they need to be a successful member of both our school community and our modern British society. Alongside this, and underpinning everything we do, is our commitment to supporting our pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Curriculum Organsiation

At Hope Brook, we use a topic teaching approach. Each topic covers several different subjects but is usually led by a specific subject. We have allocated National Curriculum (subject specific) objectives to each of our topics. We run a two year rolling programme of topics, as shown below. For the academic year 2024 - 2025, we will be in cycle B.

Topic Webs

Our topic webs describe which aspects of the curriculum are being covered. We believe it is important that children understand when they are being taught different subject content so we try to be clear about which subject is being taught in each lesson. In science lessons, we want the children to think like scientists and in history, we want the children to behave like historians.
